The Yellow Wallpaper a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, published in 1899, is a psychological horror tale that explores issues of women’s oppression, mental illness, and societal expectations. The story is narrated by a female who is limited to a room in her home by her husband, a physician, due to her “nervous condition.” As the narrator will become increasingly isolated, she turns into fixated on the room’s yellow wallpaper, seeing annoying patterns and in the end descending into delusion and madness.
